| Services Provided: Offers a variety of habitats in which wildlife can thrive, activities for individuals, families, and school classes (the website offers a calendar of events), resources for educators, and a fire management program to ensure that abundant and healthy vegetation exist for wildlife. Blackwater does not accept wildlife for rehabilitation. The Friends of Blackwater have a speakers bureau who will provide programs to public organizations or community groups. Refuge personnel can also give programs on specific subjects if reserved in advance. | Services Provided: A volunteer group that sews, crochets, knits, and quilts blankets size infant to teenager for donation to the Ronald McDonald House. There are no specific requirement as to size, color, material, etc. These blankets are for the smallest preemie to a toddler to a pre-teen to an older teen. Maintains a system of sanctuaries to encourage the conservation of birds and their habitats. Helps to record and publish observations of bird life. Volunteers accepted to help clean Pelot Sanctuary, go into schools and teach children about nature, and to lead bird walks. | Services Provided: On-site services include parenting education classes, nutrition classes, developmental screening and education, child care while attending center classes, child safety, GED, Adult Basic Education, and English for Spanish Speakers classes (Mon.-Thurs. 10:30 AM-12:30 PM & 1-3 PM), and support groups. A family advocate is assigned to each family to be a case manager and work on their individual needs. Off-site services include home visits by a case manager. The Parents As Teachers program is a family education and support program that includes home visits and group meetings at the center. Hosts a DADS support group the 2nd Thursday of every month from 6:30-8:30 PM. A meal is provided. Features include parenting classes and guest speakers. | Services Provided: Builds simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with those in
need of adequate shelter. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat homes.
Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Houses are sold at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage. | Services Provided: Caroline Hospice offers an alternative to hospital and nursing home care for those who are dying, and supports their families and friends as well. Members of our Coordinated Care Team and the services provided include: The patient's private physician to provide medical care, monitor pain medications, and assist with medical equipment, and RN's to coordinate patient care, and personal clergy to provide spiritual comfort. Personal Care Assistants provide physical assistance and supportive services. Services are provided on a 24/7 basis to patients who are in our 3 bedroom Hospice Home. Available to patients in the community facilitating the same care, and provide relief for their at home caregivers. There is no charge for any of the services. Financial support is provided by Friends of Hospice, memorial donations and fundraisers coordinated by the Hospice Foundation Board. Volunteers are trained and utilized to assist the staff with fundraisers, home maintenance, office assistance, and patient care. The Bereavement Support Group is held at the Caroline Home for Hospice and runs for 6 weeks. There are 2 groups in the fall and 2 in the spring. | Services Provided: Patients are offered recreational therapy,art therapy, music therapy, socialization, financial assistance, and respite, and the program provides care for Alzheimer's patients. Therapeutic activities include arts and crafts, outings, cooking demos, games and exercise, parties and music, pet therapy, and word trivia. Two meals and one snack are served daily. There is also a beauty shop/barbershop for showers and shampoos. Transportation is provided to and from the program, to outings, and to doctor appts. in the Denton area. Patient's health needs are monitored by nursing staff, and emotional health needs are monitored by a social worker. Support group for families/cargivers meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 3:30 PM. Volunteers accepted. Licensed by the Veteran's Administration and Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene. |
