Beacon Place offers a safe harbor and sanctuary for adults experiencing a psychiatric crisis. As a voluntary alternative to hospitalization, Beacon Place provides short term Residential Crisis Services in a community-based setting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

In addition to Residential Crisis Services, Beacon Place offers crisis counseling. Beacon Place is appropriate as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization or to shorten the length of a hospital admission. Anyone who is medically stable, under the care of a physician, and awaiting admission to a psychiatric unit can be safely cared for at Beacon Place.

Situated in a quiet community, their trained crisis staff offer counseling and therapeutic groups.

The refuge offers the public a chance to view a variety of habitats in which wildlife thrives on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The refuge has a full service staffed Visitor Center with restrooms, interpretive exhibits, pollinator garden, observatory, and bookstore (operated by the Friends of Blackwater). Outdoor facilities include the Wildlife Drive (suitable for all auto, foot, and bicycle traffic), an elevated observation deck, a photo blind, walking trails, and paddling trails. Programs for school, scout, and civic organizations are available with advanced notice, and subject to staff availability. Please note that Blackwater does not accept wildlife for rehabilitation. Please use our street when using GPS navigation.

The Food Center is open every second and third Thursday from 5pm - 6:30pm which is a discounted shopping program for south Caroline residents (Preston, Harmony, and Federalsburg). All items reduced in price for sales to shoppers. Minimum purchase is $15 per family.

The Clothing Center is open every Thursday from 3 - 6pm. All gently worn clothing items (some are $1 per item) with no minimum purchase or income guidelines required. We accept cash, EBT/SNAP cards, debit and credit cards for payment.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church provides a meal to the community. The meal is provided by their soup kitchen and held on the first Wednesday of every month from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. You can eat in or take your meal with you. All are welcome!

A volunteer group that works independently to sew, crochet, knit, and quilt blankets size infant to teenager for donation to Maryland's Ronald McDonald House. There are no specific requirement as to size, color, material, etc. These blankets are for the smallest preemie to a toddler to a pre-teen to an older teen. Each blanket has a customized label 'Made with Tender Loving Care by Brianna's Blankets' sewn into it. The blankets provide comfort to seriously ill children receiving treatment in hospitals.
