A full range of outpatient mental health services are offered to Caroline County residents including: psychiatric evaluation, individual group and family therapy for adults adolescents and children, medication management, nursing services, information/referral services, school based therapy services provided in some public schools. Services are provided by an experienced staff of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and a welcoming support staff. Evening hours available by appointment only. The Clinic accepts Medicare, Medical Assistance and very limited private insurance. A sliding fee scale will be offered to the uninsured. Evening hours are available by appointment only.

Service

Adult program includes site and community based psychiatric rehabilitation services, supported employment, residential, and special support and assistance for those suffering from mental illness as the primary diagnosis. The Youth Program offers community based psychiatric rehabilitative services. Services are offered year round through after school and summer programming. Incorporated in the structured schedule are activities that encourage the youth to develop skills for working in groups and in peer relationships. A referral from a mental health provider is required. We have access to a language line as needed to assist with intakes and paperwork. We also have one staff member who can speak Haitian-Creole in the Youth program.

Offers horsemanship services: Horse training and starting, horse shoeing, riding lessons (ages 9 and up), and Therapeutic Horsemanship for people with challenges. Our PATH International coach is the first person in the US accredited in the “Ride With Your Mind” method which optimizes the rider’s ability to learn independently and unlocks the horse’s ability to become more athletic. She teaches at the farm and offers clinics elsewhere in the USA. In Therapeutic Horsemanship our specialty is working with individuals, small groups and families with emotional or psychiatric challenges. Horse ownership and care classes can be scheduled for small groups. There is a bed and breakfast on site; guests can bring and board their horse.

Some of MSBH’s main functions include:Systems Planning and Management – As a core service agency, MSBH is responsible for the development and implementation of community planning, management, and accountability mechanisms for the delivery of mental health services. MSBH conducts regular public mental health systems needs assessments, and develops an annual strategic Community Mental Health Plan. MSBH works closely with Local Addictions Authorities (LAAs) who are responsible for the local substance related health service system towards integrated behavioral health systems needs assessment and strategic planning processes which seeks to develop and expand the regional system of care and its capacity to meet the needs of the mid-shore community. This cooperative data collection, analysis and planning processes allow us as local entities to self-govern, and monitor and evaluate the local public behavioral health system.Funds Allocation and Contract Monitoring – MSBH receives funding from Maryland’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and other state and national sources for services and recovery supports to meet needs identified, accomplish the goals of the strategic plan, and to serve our mission. Approximately 92% of the funding received is passed onto community providers throughout the mid-shore, and for some throughout the Eastern Shore, for programs related to mental health, substance use, peer support, crisis intervention, homelessness and affordable housing, sign language interpreters and other safety net provisions. MSBH works collaboratively with our partners, employing accountability and support mechanism to achieve success through the monitoring of contracts.Systems Navigation – MSBH provides information and referral resources to consumers, their natural support systems, providers and community partners seeking behavioral health services and recovery supports for both mental health and substance use. Our staff offers a full continuum of support in responding to help calls, from simply providing a telephone number or basic information to problem solving complicated care need with multiple providers of services and supports. MSBH staff are there to assist with navigating a complicated system of care.

His Hope Haven accepts single men and women, as well as family groups, as guests. The shelter opens at 5:30 PM and guests are provided with dinner, breakfast the next morning, and a packed lunch. Shower facilities are available. Guests leave at 9 AM each morning. Guests without transportation are driven into Denton, and picked up there later. The drop off and pickup area is in the parking lot of the court house across from the Episcopal Church on Gay Street.
