Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. The Division of Early Childhood at the Maryland State Department of Education is responsible for early care and education in Maryland. The main mission of the Division is to improve early education in Maryland so that young children are well prepared for school. Office of Child Care

The Office of Child Care (OCC) works to support and guide early education and child care so that every young child in Maryland has a strong foundation and will be ready for kindergarten. The OCC is responsible for licensing and inspecting all child care centers and family child care and daycare providers in Maryland and evaluating and approving applications for Maryland State Department of Education Child Care Trainers/Training Proposal Approval Program.  The OCC also administers Maryland’s subsidized child care program for working families and the state’s Child Care Credentialing System.

The OCC is responsible for the regulation of child care, facilitating the development of new child care resources, promoting the use of regulated care, monitoring caregiver compliance with child care licensing requirements, encouraging the growth of caregiver professionalism, and providing technical assistance to caregivers and parents. Within OCC, the Licensing Branch is specifically responsible for all child care licensing activities.

The Early Learning Branch is responsible for pre-k and kindergarten policy and programs. This branch also oversees the Ready for Kindergarten Early Childhood Comprehensive Assessment System, Developmental Screening, Early Childhood Curriculum and the Maryland Approved Alternative Program Preparation. Provides services for children, birth to 3 years, who exhibit developmental delays. A child with a suspected developmental delay, birth through age three, is eligible for screening and assessments to identify early and intervention needs. If you are concerned about a baby or toddler’s development, call 410-479-3246 to share your concerns and request a screening. Screenings can be done in the home.

Service

On-site services include parenting education classes and support groups, nutrition classes, developmental screening and education, child care for infants and toddlers while attending center classes, GED, Adult Basic Education, and English as a Second Language classes (Mon.-Thurs. 9:30 AM-12:30 PM & 1-3 PM). A family advocate is assigned to each family to be a case manager and work on their individual needs. Off-site services include home visits by a case manager. The Parents As Teachers program is a family education and support program that includes home visits and group meetings at the center. Call the center for more information or to enroll in any of the programs. Volunteers accepted.

Eligibility

There are income requirements and a sliding scale fee. You must be either pregnant, or a parent of a child that is aged 3 or under. Program includes assisting fathers, as well as mothers of young children.

Professional Development to improve the ability of child care professionals to deliver quality early learning opportunities to all children. All courses are provided through Chesapeake College’s Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Training. CCCRC provides a counselor who can assist providers who are approved by MSDE to receive the scholarship funds.

Offers an early learning preschool enrichment program for 3 & 4 year olds. Call for information on openings or to put your name on a waiting list. The hours for the 3 year old class are Tues. & Thurs. 9:15-11:30 AM. Hours for the 4 year old class are Mon., Wed., and Fri. 9:15-11:30 AM. Slots are given on a first come, first serve basis. Classes run from September to May. Daycare services are available from 6:30 AM-5:30 PM for ages 2 through 5th grade.
