Critical Repairs Caroline County, a local 501c3 nonprofit, provides essential home repairs or accessibility items to make it possible for low-income or very-low-income resident homeowners to remain safe and secure in their homes with a special focus on the disabled, veterans and families with children.

Typical critical repairs include:
– Handicapped ramps and entry modifications to enable the disabled to access their homes.
– Roof repairs and miscellaneous repairs to restore safety in the home.
– Minor plumbing repairs to provide safe drinking water.
– Modifications to bathrooms to provide accessibility for the disabled.

Critical Repairs Caroline County welcomes volunteers with skills in construction or assembly.

Eligibility: Low-income to very low-income per HUD standards for Caroline County.

Fees: All repairs are provided at no cost to the resident homeowner.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, known as the Food Supplement Program, or FSP, in Maryland) provides monthly assistance to low-income families to help them buy food and eat healthy. The program provides a monthly sum of money on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card to be used, like a debit card, at authorized grocery stores and other food retailers.

The Maryland Department of Human Services in conjunction with the Maryland State Department of Education has secured approval from the USDA on its joint submission to operate a Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program.

P-EBT is intended to cover breakfast, lunch, and a snack for eligible children who would have received these meals at their school, for five days a week. The benefit for the 2020-2021 school year is valued at $6.82 per day for a full virtual month of enrollment or for a full hybrid month of enrollment.

Comcast is offering two free months of free Internet Essentials service to new internet customers. You may qualify for Internet Essentials if you qualify for SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, and other services. Provide safe, affordable, and energy efficient homes for low-income families in Caroline County. Partner families work alongside volunteers and local contractors under Habitat construction supervision. Low-cost mortgages are provided in order to promote long term homeownership. Also, Habitat participates in the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI)- which may include rehabilitation of vacant and foreclosed properties, house repairs and weatherization. Applications are being accepted for low-income homeowners. Habitat partners with other community organizations to provide services that enhance the overall quality of life in struggling neighborhoods.

Provides grants to very low income people age 62 or older and one percent interest loans for any very low income person who owns and occupies their home to complete home repairs that are needed to fix hazardous conditions for safety reasons. Examples of legal issues they can assist with include family law, bankruptcy and debt, small claims, advanced medical directives, wills or probate, landlord-tenant disputes, divorce, and guardianship. Mid-Shore Pro Bono does not handle criminal cases, traffic cases or appeals. Mid-Shore Pro Bono offers a number of programs dedicated to dispute and conflict resolution which include: Free Civil Legal Clinics, Lawyer Referral, Community Conferencing, Foreclosure Prevention, Bankruptcy Clinic, Collaborative Practice for Family Law Disputes, Consumer Protection.
